If we have a girl, we will use Peanut's old bedding and do fairy accents. She had flower accents so I want to go with something a little different.
This was her room days before she was born.
I painted the flowers on canvasses and will do fairies in a similar manner if we have girl.
This is where it gets tricky for me. Decorating a boys room seems so much harder. I don't want to be something too babyish because he will grow out of it in a minute. But I don't want it to look too grown up because what it is the fun in that?
I've settled on the theme of wild animals but finding something that fits what I like has been difficult. Here are the two that I like so far.
This, however, is more than I would like to spend on bedding.
How did you decorate your nursery? If you had a boy and girl, was it harder to do the boy's?

I love, love, love that first one for a boy! I wish it had been around for my son. But wow, it is really pricey.
We have this: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3394527
I like it OK, but it was really more like the one I hated least when we were shopping for such things.
We also used vinyl wall decals that look like bubbles from Hip in a Hurry, but they started peeling off just a few months later, so I wouldn't recommend that company. Our decals from Uppercase Living have held up beautifully, however.
You could do the monkey one but keep the monkeys to just easily switched out accessories (pillows, maybe a picture, etc.) and that way you could keep the green/brown/tan theme and upgrade it from a baby monkey to more grown up monkeys. Or just leave it with the colors in stripes or dots.
For a boy though, you could also do cars or trucks. Those would grow with him.
I LOVE the first one! I doubt I would pay that much for 4 pieces though. I had such a hard time decorating Christian's room. So I went with modern polka dots. I just have a hard time finding things to go in his room because the mint color on the walls isn't a typical "baby" color. My only advice is just to pick a wall color that will allow you to bring in lots of other color through accent pieces. Or pick bedding that has lots of color. If you want to go shopping let me know. Decorating and shopping were my favorite parts of nesting : )
I have a personal beef with nurseries looking too babyish (it's a *thing*, I have)--so minus the crib--we tried to keep the kidlets rooms fairly grow-up friendly.
With Ezra, we didn't know if it was boy or girl, so gender neutral it was. Chocolate brown for the walls, white furniture, framed book covers on the walls.
With Iris, the walls are baby blue but there are bright colors everywhere else.
Can't wait to hear what you're having!
I have no advice as Sophie and Sibling will have to share a room for a while regardless of gender. We did a farm theme for Sophie-we wanted something gender neutral so a lot of that will work this time around regardless of gender. I agree with K. Although we had a "theme" the items and colors we chose were able to grow and adapt and will continue for a few more years. I like Hillary M's idea to use minimal monkeys and have things you can easily swap out through the stages.
Well Lea's room is pink and brown butterflies and flowers (which you know because you provided the lovely art hanging over her crib :-) but back when I was sure she was a boy, I was really into the idea of a Dr. Seuss room. I was thinking book covers and Seussian art, with brightly colored but basic bedding I almost did that anyway but the siren call of having a little girl lured me in and pink it was.
I like them both. I think the monkeys are adorable and could work at least til he's pre-school aged. The other one is cute and I can see newborn being very intrigued by the pattern but I probably wouldn't spend that much on a 4-piece set either.
