Technology hates me

My iPhone is holding a post (with pictures! of a cute Beast!) hostage. Damn BlogPress.

In other news, The Boy came home from baseball last night sweaty headed, dirty faced and absolutely thrilled to tell me that he and his friend were the best hitters in the class, Coach said so. They are all-stars.

Please don't take this as bragging about my amazing kid. The only confirmation I have of this statement is his father, who is ridiculously proud and thrilled to have a son who loves baseball as much as he does. He declared The Boy also the strongest thrower in the class. In short: he is too biased to be trusted. No, I tell you this only because seeing The Boy's eyes spark and his face split into grins as he told me all about something he feels he does well and is proud about was one of the best moments ever.

While I wrestle with my phone, here are some things I want to know from you:

1. What's your favorite parenting moment lately?
2. What's your most effective long-car-trip-with-kids treat or activity? (ASIDE from the DVD player)
3. What book should I buy for vacation?

On long trips we like to get food at a fast food place or pack a picnic and use our GPS to find a park so the kids can run around after they eat. (or before)
New notebooks and crayons/pencils, magnadoodles and car friendly snacks!

1. Ezra seeing Iris crying at school and telling her (loudly), "IRIS! SCHOOL IS GREAT! DON'T CRY!"

2. We've not been on many long car trips (only two, really) but I busted out new books and music from the library and treats from the dollar bin at Target.

3. I'm not terribly good at book recommendations (I work in a Boring Library), but I will feel jealous/happy that you're going on vacation. Yay for you guys!

1. Ummm Don't really know. I think I like that while I want Emma to sleep in her crib I also like that she sleeps with us part time and I'm not all hung up on what the "experts" say about it. And Sophie has been pooping in the potty and doing so regularly! (this is huge.)

2. I have a bag with treats/snacks. I can pull out something new when things get cranky. My mom did it too. She would magically hand out twizzlers or a new Yes/No book on car rides.

3. After catching up on Oprah on DVR while on maternity leave, I want to read "Stories I only tell my friends" By Rob Lowe. It's his autobiography. Sounds fascinating!

1. My favorite moment of late is watching Evan learn manners and figure out nice ways to ask people to do things or play with him. It makes me smile.

2. Unfortunately, I have no tips for the car. We've had some pretty awful trips with Evan. But I want to steal any ideas on here for an upcoming plane ride to Key West!

3. You are better at books than I am. I probably will read many of your recommendations this summer when I'm not busy reading books I teach my students.

So essentially, my post is totally unhelpful to you. But on the baseball thing ... I think my husband is hoping Evan loves baseball as much as The Boy does. We went to a kids' game last weekend (hubby was umpiring) and it held his attention for a little while, though then he became enthralled with a yellow jeep, gravel, and running from me.

Favorite parenting moment lately- sitting with my kids at Muffins for Mom this morning at school. My daughter even kissed me goodbye in front of her friends.

Car trips- nothing works better than a DVD player. Maybe Benadryl? (Kidding.)

Books- Tara Road by Maeve Binchy. or Evening Class, same author.
